Therapeutic ultrasound treatment as part of physical therapy has been one of the most frequently used forms of treatment for over 60 years.
Today, ultrasound therapy has proven to be an effective way to treat various musculoskeletal and soft tissue disorders. Ultrasound therapy is the ideal form of treatment for successful treatment of injuries to high-density connective tissue (collagen) (e.g. ligaments, tendons, fascia, joint capsules and scar tissue).
Ultrasound can be used in continuous or pulsed mode for a thermal (warming) or non-thermal effect (upregulation of cell growth). A low-dose* ultrasound appears to have a stimulating effect on bone growth (rapid fracture healing) and on the repair of tendons and nerves.
We have all learned to apply ultrasound therapy by moving the treatment head (dynamic or semi-stationary method). The movement of the treatment head is necessary because certain phenomena can occur within the ultrasound beam as well as in the tissue, which can lead to tissue damage in the form of so-called "hot spots". This treatment method is also time-consuming and labor-intensive
